I lived in Colorado Springs twice (total of seven years) while I attended school (undergrad and beyond). I spent four years in Europe between those two times in CO Springs, then moved to the East Coast for six years – with the expectation I would escape back to Colorado at my first opportunity! I finally did move back in April 2009, this time to the Denver area. Denver was always a place to visit while I lived in COS (Colorado Springs), but I can’t say that I really got to know it. After my years on the East Coast, and seeing how much COS and Denver have grown, I feel like I get a chance to really get to know Colorado now! This time I have more free time because I’m not spending my time studying.
Please join me as I take adventures getting to know CO! Here are some of the characters that will frequently join me. Glacier Bruin is my male dog. He got a sister recently, named Kermode Bruin. (Yes, I named the blog on the dog I did’t yet have – but now I do, so it’s all good!) They’ll help me find dog-friendly things to do. My husband will also feature prominently in these adventures – I’ll call him Mr. Bruin (so I guess that makes me Mrs. Bruin). We have cats, too: Mintaka, Stratus, and Feldspar (we just lost Feldspar, but I can’t bring myself to delete him from here).
I’ll identify others by their pets as well. The Scotties: Mr., Mrs., and kid Scottie (the kid’s actually in college), as well as the actual Scottish Terriers, Ian and Megan.
I also blog about food. While I lived in Europe my friends and called ourselves WSITs: wine snobs in training. I also learned to eat a bit differently, because great wine needs great food. Growing up, I thought it was a waste of time to spend more time preparing a meal than it took to eat it. While I was in college and did not have many opportunities to prepare food, I learned to appreciate magazines such as Gourmet, and tried to borrow kitchens to experiment with some of those recipes as frequently as possible. Now, I prefer to cook dinner at home than risk poor service, cold food, botched orders, or way-too-expensive wine at restaurants. I collected quite a few top-notch wines while I lived in Europe; several still sit in my collection, waiting for excellent meals with which to enjoy them! When I do go to a restaurant, I try not to order something I might make at home.
Join me on my adventures in Colorado and in my kitchen!
